bookshelf and books complete as you view into the utility room from the eat in kitchen. So much nicer to look at that versus the hollow core flat white door that it was.
I forgot to take a photo of putting up the "trim" piece that acts like a "shelf" between the rows of books. It was a spindle from an old crib that I've had in my garage. I used some books with their pages in order to fool the eye into thinking all of them have pages. The brown book on the left side is bolted to my door handle. You push down on the right side of the book and the door opens easily. There was some planning and thought into how that worked, and I am pleased to say it functions without rubbing on any of the other books.
I painted the door, door trim and the trim I added to the door to create the "bookshelf". more to follow
this is my powder room door. I stapled black poster board up and then added bits and pieces of trims left over from projects all around the house. Nothing "matched"
this is what awaits me next...renovation of the flooring and replacing the toilet, vanity and sink-faucet for the powder room. A homeowner's work is never done, is it? :) hope you enjoyed my project, I LOVE IT!
Here's the door open more so you can see that the books are about 1/2" deep and the trim around them are approximately 3/4".
Here's photo from directly in front of the door. To the side is my freezer, and to my immediate right is the washer and dryer that you can not see in the photo.
I purchased books for a very low price, and then carefully removed the pages and kept the spine and 1/2" of the back and front cover. I filled the empty space with either fiberfill 1 1/2" cushion or sometimes I used stryofoam, I then hot glued that to the book spline and then hot glued the books together and finally glued the fiberfill to the black posterboard.
wall color changing from yellow/gold to pastel pink. my home is now pastel pink/grays of all shades and black.
