The Library's Special Collections complement the resources of the general Library collections. They are acquired and maintained in support of the University's curriculum with emphasis on the natural resources, Native peoples, and primary industries of Northwestern California, including the history of Cal Poly Humboldt.

The Belcher Atlas of Humboldt County, California, compiled from official records and private sources and surveys, shows drainages, settlements, roads, trails, railroads, township and section lines, parcel ownership, and Indian allotments. The Index and Sheets 1-8 were published in 1921; the remainder were published in 1922.

California Revealed from Humboldt State University Library
California Revealed is a State Library initiative to help California’s public libraries, in partnership with other local heritage groups, digitize, preserve, and provide online access to archival materials - books, newspapers, photographs, audiovisual recordings, and more - that tell the incredible stories of the Golden State. We also provide free access and preservation services for existing digital collections for partner organizations with in-house digitization programs. California Revealed is supported by the U.S. Institute of Museum and Library Services under the provisions of the Library Services and Technology Act, administered in California by the State Librarian.

Ericson Photograph Collection
The Ericson Collection depicts a wide variety of everyday northwest California scenes and activities from the 1880s through the 1920s. Lumber industry, Native Americans, city and village street scenes (primarily Arcata ), Schools, portraits, and scenic views are the featured subjects of this collection. The primary photographer represented is A.W. Ericson with some by his son and business partner, Edgar. More information about this collection can be found at

Northwestern California Forest Communities Collection
The Northwestern California Forest Communities Collection includes photographs, maps, and architectural and design drawings selected from several Humboldt State University Library collections for this project. Images were chosen to illustrate the broad range of people and activities typically associated with the early timber industry in Humboldt County. The company towns of Crannell (Little River Redwood Company) and Samoa (Vance Redwood Lumber Company and Hammond Lumber Company) are especially well documented. Promotional materials are included as well as residential, industrial and mechanical design drawings and infrastructure maps. Roberts Photograph Collection
The Roberts Photograph Collection documents life on the Yurok Indian Reservation along the lower Klamath River in northwestern California, primarily during the period of 1915 to 1933. It is the private collection of Mrs. Ruth Kellet Roberts, containing 536 photographs, many of them taken by Mrs. Roberts herself as an amateur photographer. They include photographs of her many friends in the Yurok Indian community and their daily activities and ceremonies, early photographs of the town of Requa, of the Pecwan-Johnsons area, and various landscape features of the surrounding area....
