Hand-and-a-half hunting sword, 1490-1500. Tyrol (Austria). Workshop of Hans Sumersperger of Hall. Steel; brass; dark and light horn. 2 lb. 7 oz. HAM # 2007.01 The elaborate & distinctive decoration of the hilt identifies the origen of this piece as the workshop of Hans Sumersperger of Hall. It was quite possibly made by Sumersperger himself. His clients included the imperial Austrian royal family; the sword is one of the few surviving examples of his work.
