Everett Shinn (1876 - 1953) was an American realist painter and member of the Ashcan School, also known as 'the Eight.' He was the youngest member of the group of modernist painters who explored the depiction of real life. He is most famous for his numerous paintings of New York and the theatre, and of various aspects of luxury and modern life inspired by his home in New York City. George Bellows (1882 – 1925) was an American painter and lithographer. He studied with Robert Henri at the New York School of Art and became associated with the artists of the Ashcan School. Best known for his boxing scenes, he achieved notoriety with his painting Stag at Sharkey's (1909), which depicts an illegal boxing match. He was one of the organisers of the Armory Show.
