English: From left to right the children are Donald, Dorothy, Clarence, and Mary Daughtery- children of a previous marriage whom Marshall Tuason adopted. Clarence the youngest who was 7 when this photo was taken later legally changed his name to Tuason to honor his step-father, and Donald named one of his sons Marshall after him.
One of the only official records of Marshall Tuason's life was a US census in 1940 where he and his family were declared as white. Just because it was only partially correct doesn't mean it wasn't true, but they obviously filled out the form and mailed it in or his white wife Myna talked to the census taker. Right during that same time period they had a riot in California about Filipino men taking white women away from their men and had passed a law against Filipino men marrying white women, but luckily they were already married. His wife Myna's second husband was actually not much good and rumor is that she ran him off at gun point, and with 4 children (out of 10 total) living at home in her advanced age, she was lucky to have found Marsh who provided for her family through the great depression and World War II. He often did farmwork and other odd jobs, from sweeping jail cells to giving haircuts, and was well loved and respected by his family and community. He went to jail for a month once in Newport Beach because he and his wife were caught using the children to sell flowers door to door, which was illegal even then, but he got to go home on the weekends and was well liked by the police because he did odd jobs while he was there. In later life he was employed at Douglas Aircraft in Long Beach.
