Usman Majid on Instagram: "In the realm of arms and armour, few creations hold the soul of an empire as this armour does, inscribed with the name of Shah Suleiman I of the Safavid dynasty (r. 1666–1694). The back plate bears a blazing sun, a symbol of divine authority that once lit the corridors of Persia’s fading glory. Around its edges, sacred calligraphy and tributes to the Shahnamah (Book of Kings) flow like whispered prayers. Arabic alphabet running in the borders surrounding each of these plates, bear the hallmarks of a master craftsman skilled in both the working of Damascus steel and gold inlay. Perhaps it never touched the Shah’s body, yet it carries his shadow—a reflection of a reign where splendour and decline danced uneasily together. Many thanks to the National Museum in Krak
Usman Majid on Instagram: "Shah Ismail I, the fiery architect of the Safavid dynasty, emerged from fractured Persia to forge one of history’s most stunning empires. At just fourteen, he unleashed his Qizilbash warriors—red-crowned zealots of unmatched ferocity and fanatical loyalty—to carve order from chaos. Relentless victory after victory followed: the Aq Qoyunlu crushed, the Uzbeks humbled, and Persia’s sacred heartland secured. In a blaze of conquest, Ismail crowned himself Shah, his rule a whirlwind of conquest, faith, and power. His dynasty shaped Persian identity for two centuries, leaving behind breathtaking arts and architecture. Swipe to witness the rise and life of Shah Ismail with some beautiful gems from the exceptional David Collection and other museums. #armsandarmor #horseb
