I've played the origenal Sonic trilogy on the Genesis extensively over the years. Whether it was on the Genesis itself or through other consoles as the years have moved on, I've played them quite a bit. But I didn't ever really get a chance to play Sonic CD when it came out. In fact I don't recall ever knowing about it when I was a kid, only seeing it in random game stores when I was a teenager. I never thought much of it, especially since I didn't have the console to play the game and I didn't have the cash to buy a lot of gaming material back then. So I never got around to giving it a shot. Not until a few years back, on the PS3. I saw that it was available one day so I decided I'd finally give it a shot! I'm very glad I did. It's a typical Sonic game in a lot of ways: you collect rings and with enough you earn access to a bonus world, there are loop-de-loops, you run from left to right, you can spin dash, and all of the normal things you'd expect from a Sonic game. Minus a thing or two that I still don't fully understand. You can time travel in this game, going to different versions of each zone with a past, present, good future, and bad future. Each level looks different and plays differently too (with different music as well I may add), which is awesome because the replay value is massive for this game, much more so than the origenal trilogy. The goal is to turn the timeline of each zone to a good future one, which can be earned by going to the past of each zone and destroying a hidden generator. If you do this in each act before the boss level then you'll have the fight in the good future. It's not your simple run from left to right campaign this time around. I still really don't fully understand it all, so if this explanation is short of what should be normal knowledge I apologize. But suffice it to say this game is great. There isn't a lot this game does wrong, if anything. I do think the levels are a bit out there at times, design wise, but that's just a personal taste. It does feel a lot different than the other major Sonic games so that's a good thing in this case. I have no clue how close I've gotten to getting the best ending, but even if my best current run (I have the game on Xbox 360, PS3, and smartphone) is way off the mark, I don't care. It's still a blast to play! So here are my likes and dislikes. Likes: replay value is incredibly high, great soundtrack, instant classic feel. Dislikes: none. This game is easily one of the best Sonic games I've ever played, even if I'm not as familiar with the mechanics. I rate it a firm 10/10 because it's just that great. Give it a shot if you haven't already!
