In downtown Hyden, Kentucky, near Hazard. I think Kentucky is as geographically interesting as California with mountains, shoreline, flatland, and plenty of places to hike. Hyden is a charming little hideaway in Southern Kentucky and boasts some of the best bluegrass music in the world, including the famous Osborne Brothers.
