THE WOODEN BALL fell in there when I was trying to find something to close the top 🤪 I couldn’t tip it to get it out because I already had the layers in there so there it stays! The 4 year old plants have died off and decomposed without any smell (thanks soil microbes!) so now it’s time to add a new plant! Ferns do so well on these terrariums and they just look so whimsical—I love them! ✨ I use pea gravel for my water reservoir layer but you can use any small stones you want. ✨ medium is equal parts potting soil, sand & sphagnum moss ✨ I have a roll of replacement window screen on hand always so I cut a piece to fit the diameter of the vase and lay it on top of the pea gravel before adding soil - this keeps it in place! ✨ add water to middle of gravel line ✨ condensation in the morning and evening on the glass is normal but if it is staying 24/7 you should open the terrarium and let it sit for a few days then close it and try again ✨ north windows are great, east is good as well. He would just cut off the tops of the flowers, let them dry out, then store them in a brown paper bag which he kept in the refrigerator. When it came time to plant again, instead of buying new seeds, he would just crumble the dried flowers to separate the petals from the seeds, and then directly sowed them in the ground. We always had an ENORMOUS Zinnia patch every year and it is something I make sure to always have in my own garden. I have begun my own seed saving this year and it is oddly satisfying.
