Deletion

edit

This template is terrible. Adding this to a page will increase almost any page to unacceptable size. Either this template has to redone as a navigation box. Or it has to be deleted. Arnoutf 07:26, 13 April 2007 (UTC)Reply

edit

I like the navigation box, but I think that too many links were removed. the world's largest buildings and list of buildings are definitely relevant enough to be included in here and the terms are common to the related see also pages from what I seen.--Jorfer 13:49, 14 April 2007 (UTC)Reply

Go ahead and add them back; I set this up as a start. World's tallest buildings is linked by both the title and below that to the left. –Pomte 13:58, 14 April 2007 (UTC)Reply

Buildings and structures vs structures vs buildings

edit

There are many inconsistencies in use word structure in articles and tables. Someone mean Architectural structure, someone Nonbuilding structure. That cause many problems in template like this or in categorization. I think we must discuss and decide, what meaning of structure we will use. But i am not sure, if there is best place for that, maybe better will be there. --Jklamo 14:41, 14 April 2007 (UTC)Reply

Hong Kong

edit

Hi, i removed Hong Kong from the template, because i think in a sense of that list Hong Kong is more city than country. --Jklamo 20:13, 24 June 2007 (UTC)Reply

Largest buildings and largest domes

edit

Regarding the recent addition of List of largest buildings in the world and List of the world's largest domes... I removed these in this edit because I felt they had no relevance to this template about Tallest buildings and structures in the world. Largest buildings are measured by the volume, and the domes by diameter. These have nothing to do with the height of the structures. --timsdad (talk) 00:45, 19 June 2009 (UTC)Reply

I readded these because they are related by being building extremes. It may be a loose fit, but that is why I moved it to the relevant architecture. A section can be added as "other building extremes" if this is deemed unsuitable. This template does not need to have a very strict adherence to the title.--Jorfer (talk) 02:00, 19 June 2009 (UTC)Reply
I see what you mean... Maybe another template with lists of the largest/tallest/biggest/longest etc. structures can be created. This could include longest bridges and tunnels as well as any other lists of significant architectural feats. Just a suggestion. --timsdad (talk) 02:14, 19 June 2009 (UTC)Reply
That would be great. Put any ideas you have here. List of the longest buildings in the world would be a good one to include since it is currently orphaned.--Jorfer (talk) 02:25, 19 June 2009 (UTC)Reply
I think we should focus on the one's not included in this template (those that are not height related).--Jorfer (talk) 03:13, 19 June 2009 (UTC)Reply
Sorry for being so blunt... but why is that? --timsdad (talk) 07:36, 19 June 2009 (UTC)Reply
Because if someone is looking for tallest building information we want them using this template instead, since it is more comprehensive. We can have this template link to the tallest buildings and structures article, but from there they should see this template and use this one instead. We would add the proposed template to that article.--Jorfer (talk) 15:59, 19 June 2009 (UTC)Reply
Below, I have bolded the lists I feel should be added to the new template. --timsdad (talk) 08:47, 8 July 2009 (UTC)Reply

Lists to be added to possible new template discussed above

edit

Please add to these (it is likely not all will be included):

Movement of pages

edit

For those being linked to this discussion by a few of my recent edit summaries moving articles for consistency, if you feel that this was unnecessary or wrong, please add your opinion here. Thanks, timsdad (talk) 12:57, 8 July 2009 (UTC)Reply

Why did you get rid of Air traffic obstacle? Also, I think that the proposed template should not have as much overlap with this template. Why duplicate?--Jorfer (talk) 14:35, 8 July 2009 (UTC)Reply
I'm sorry, removing Air traffic obstacle was a complete accident.
What do you believe is being duplicated? The only list that I bolded that is in the TBSW template is List of tallest buildings and structures in the world, which was your idea to add in the first place. Everything else bolded is not in the TBSW template. --timsdad (talk) 14:57, 8 July 2009 (UTC)Reply
So the non-bolded items are not in the template...I didn't understand that--Jorfer (talk) 23:53, 3 August 2009 (UTC)Reply
Sorry, I guess that was a bit unclear. The bolded ones are the ones I personally feel should be added to the new template. None of them are in the TBSW template. --timsdad (talk) 08:18, 4 August 2009 (UTC)Reply

Name of template

edit

Just reviving this discussion again... What would we call the template, and where exactly would we place it? My ideas, such as Template:Longest, largest, tallest and Template:Structures all suck. --timsdad (talk) 11:43, 18 November 2009 (UTC)Reply

Let us name it "Structure Extremes" and title the template Template:SE and place it on the pages linked in it. Other editors will place it on other pages as appropriate.--Jorfer (talk) 00:15, 24 November 2009 (UTC)Reply
I've created the template, but it seems a bit small at the moment and I'm not sure if the formatting's all that great either. --timsdad (talk) 06:42, 24 November 2009 (UTC)Reply
OK, I made some changes. It is small, which is why I changed my mind and included the tallest building article as well as the tallest structures article, but it will grow as new articles are created. This is probably not going to be very large though, since other extremes do not generate the same interest as height.--Jorfer (talk) 17:04, 11 December 2009 (UTC)Reply

Where's Asia

edit

Asia contains the three tallest buildings in the world, why on earth is not it on here? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 88.106.102.234 (talk) 14:42, 7 May 2010 (UTC)Reply
