Cognates include Estonian sarg, Ingrian sarka, Karelian sarka, Livvi sargu, Veps sarg, Votic sarkõ, Northern Sami suorgi (“branch”), Tundra Nenets [script needed] (tārka, “branch”) and Northern Selkup [script needed] (tolka, “branch”) (from Proto-Samoyedic *tårkå).
