James Van DerZee (1886 - 1983) was an African-American photographer best known for his portraits of black New Yorkers. He was a leading figure in the Harlem Renaissance. Aside from the artistic merits of his work, VanDerZee produced the most comprehensive documentation of the period. He also shot for many celebrities during this period. These charming photos were African-American women that he shot from the 1900s to 1930s.
