In one of my many experiments I dropped the ice block into a swimming pool. It cracked in the most interesting way and so I decided to make it a project.

“Sometimes I will combine colored tissue paper with other objects for my paintings. One day, seeing the beautiful effect of light through fuchsia colored translucent paper, I decided the paper alone would make a visually rich subject. The painting was challenging but satisfying to complete. The title Cerise, meaning cherry in French, is a color somewhere between fuchsia or magenta and red. There are many colors in the painting, but they add up to Cerise.” - Douglas Newton
