Kokichi Mikimoto was the father of cultured pearls. Thanks to Mikimoto, we have the beautiful white, round, lustrous pearl jewelry you see so often today. Fun Fact: Mikimoto died at age 96 - which was especially crazy in the 1950's when the age expectancy was 65. He attributed his long life to swallowing a cultured pearl every day for the latter part of his life😱
