Tanabata is a Japanese Star Festival that is celebrated on July 7th.  (although some places celebrate it in August).  It is based on a romantic story about the stars Altair & Vega.  Every year Japanese celebrate this story by writing their wishes on paper and hanging them on a bamboo tree in hopes that their wishes will come true.
