Embroidered huipil from the Mazatec region of Soyaltepec,Oaxaca.

This striking huipil (seen in a craft market in the city of Oaxaca) was made in the mazateca baja region of northern Oaxaca. The orange bird and flower designs are hand embroidered on commerical cotton cloth.

This one-web huipil comes from the Mazatec community of San Bartolome Ayautla in the north of Oaxaca state. It was part of an exhibit of Oaxacan textiles at the Mexican Cultural Institute in Washington, DC
