As long as people have been writing down stories, they have been using pen names. Some used a nom de plume to avoid persecution; others just didn’t like their given name. To decide if you should use a pen name, you need to consider what you write, your career, and your personal preferences. But first, let’s cover why many people chose to use pen names historically.
