Best Quotes about chronic pain, disability & mental health
A lot of "inspirational' quotes about chronic pain & mental health are too sweet or sappy to be helpful for me. I'll keep updating as I find more quotes that are encouraging without being... too much. (I promise, no "live laugh love" posters.)
"1 life on this earth is all we get, & we are fools if we do not live it as fully as possible.
You're struggling, maybe all the time. It sucks. But this is it-- like it or not, this is the one life you get. You may have drawn a worse card out of the deck than some people, but you are the one who gets to choose what you do with it. You owe it to yourself to live the biggest, best, most joyful life you can, despite whatever shit comes your way.

"I know you want to lie by the roadside but the wolves are coming, sweetheart" by Leslie J Anderson
This poem, y’all. I like it so much, I went ahead and made a whole dang video for it. Check out the author’s instagram or website afterwards for some other extremely solid poetry, a LOT of which I love. I’ve never loved the sobriquet of “pain warrior,” but there’s truth in it– this is a battle for your life, and no matter who’s supporting you, you fight it alone. Keep going, keep striving, keep trying. Whet your knife. Don’t lie down by the roadside just yet.

"You just do it. You force yourself... there's no other way." Liz Taylor
"You just do it. You force yourself to get up. You force yourself to put one foot before the other and... you refuse to let it get to you. You fight. You cry. You curse. Then you go about your bsienss of living. That's how I've done it. There's no other way. - Liz Taylor, pain/ chronic : words/ iconic @janetjay.com
"if your heart is a volcano how shall you expect flowers to bloom in your hands?" - Kahlil Gibran
Chronic pain & disability advocates don’t talk enough about grief, & the anger that goes hand in hand with grief for the person we used to be, the person we could have become. But you’re not the only one grieving the life–& the you–that might have been. It’s hard not to get angry at the fundamental unfairness of it all. But when you have chronic pain or invisible illnesses there’s no focus for that anger, & in the end, it will come back to bite you in the ass.
