These fish will occupy small crevasses in a coral reef, sometimes along with one or two other cleaner wrasses where they will swim in strange patterns to attract larger fish to their “cleaning station.” Once a fish has been drawn in the cleaner wrasse goes to work “cleaning,” which for the wrasse is mealtime—they feed on parasitic copepods and other small invertebrates that live in and around the larger fish’s mouth and gills.
