Whitney Stepp-Gay is an Assistant General Counsel in the Faculty, Students, and Research Group in the Office of Legal Counsel at the University of Kentucky. Her primary responsibilities include Unemployment Appeals, Board of Claims matters, and formal Title IX proceedings. Whitney is also an ex-officio member on several student- centered committees at UK, such as the Residency Status Review Committee and the Office of Student Conduct committee.

Prior to joining UK, Whitney was a personal injury attorney. She started her legal career with the fourth largest law firm in Kentucky, where she litigated, in part, on behalf of school boards, teachers, and administrators across the state.

Whitney was born in Muskogee, Oklahoma and raised in Versailles, Kentucky. She received her Bachelor’s in Criminology & Criminal Justice from The University of Maryland, and her Master’s in Education (emphasis in Special Education) from George Mason University in Arlington, Virginia. Whitney subsequently returned to Kentucky to obtain her law degree from UK, where she served as the President of the Black Law Student Association and a member of the Kentucky Journal of Equine, Agriculture, & Natural Resources.
