Parking

The Wiliam T. Young Library visitor parking lot is accessible from Hilltop Avenue. Parking rates are $2 per hour, with a maximum charge of $16. Metered parking is also available along Hilltop Avenue and University Drive, at $2 per hour for a maximum of four hours. The nearest visitor ADA permit parking spaces can be found in the Young Library lot.

Driving Directions to Young Library

From I-75 North

  • Take Exit 104 onto the Athens-Boonesboro Road (KY-418) and follow signs toward Lexington
  • Travel 7.7 miles, then turn left on Woodland Avenue
  • Travel 0.9 miles, then turn right on Hilltop Avenue
  • Turn right into the Young Library visitor parking lot

From I-75 South & I-64 East

  • Take Exit 115 onto Newtown Pike (KY-922) and follow signs toward Lexington
  • Travel 3.3 miles, then turn left on Main Street 
  • Travel 1.4 miles, then turn right on Woodland Avenue
  • Travel 0.9 miles, then turn right on Hilltop Avenue
  • Turn right into the Young Library visitor parking lot
  • Travel 3-4 blocks until Hilltop Avenue
  • Turn right onto Hilltop (this is the only turn-choice possible)
  • Turn right into William T. Young Library visitor's parking lot

From I-64 West

  • Take Exit 81 onto I-75 South
  • Travel 1.5 miles, then take Exit 110 onto Winchester Road (US-60) and follow signs toward Lexington
  • Travel 3.3 miles, then bear left on Midland Avenue
  • Travel 0.5 miles, then turn left on Main Street
  • Travel 0.2 miles, then turn right on Woodland Avenue
  • Travel 0.9 miles, then turn right on Hilltop Avenue
  • Turn right into the Young Library visitor parking lot

From Bluegrass Parkway

  • When Bluegrass Parkway ends, turn right on US-60 and follow signs toward Lexington
  • Travel 9.3 miles, then turn right on Maxwell Street 
  • Travel 1.3 miles, then turn right on Woodland Avenue
  • Travel 0.6 miles, then turn right on Hilltop Avenue
  • Turn right into the Young Library visitor parking lot

On-Campus Directions

Located just west of the central campus, Young Library is bound by Columbia Avenue, Woodland Avenue, Hilltop Avenue, and Rose Street.

Young Library is home to UK's general undergraduate collection and holds materials and information resources in agriculture, biology, business, humanities, and the social sciences.

Find spaces for study, meetings, and events, dining and wellness options, computer labs, printing and scanning services, and audio and video recording studios.

Basement

Find conversational and collaborative study spaces around the Hub, and quiet study space in the Student Memorial Reading Room. Reservable spaces include the AV Classroom and the Multipurpose Room. Computers, printing, and scanning services may be found in the Student Computer Lab, and recording studios are accessible in the Student Media Depot. Faculty recording studios are available in the Faculty Media Depot. Student support services include the Robert E. Hemenway Writing Center and Presentation U!. Dining and wellness options include vending machines in Core 2 and the Lactation Room (B-64). Cell phone charging stations are available in each core.

First Floor

Open seating for conversational study is available throughout the First Floor. Reservable spaces include the Alumni Gallery, the Keeneland Room, and the UK Athletics Auditorium. Research Help and assistance with library materials and services is available at the Ask Us desk. Connect with UK Libraries administrators in the Dean's Office. Find printing services at the Ricoh Document Center and microform machines in alcoves near the staircase. The First Floor is also home to Kentucky’s largest Starbucks.

Second Floor

Find print newspaper collections in the Newspaper Reading Room and the Scott Greenslade Soviet Military Collection in the Rotunda Reading Room. Collaborative study spaces include several reservable study rooms, various open seating options, and whiteboards in the South Wing. Find quiet study spaces in several reading rooms. Take a break in the comfy chairs in the Atrium or in the Meditation Space.

Third Floor

Young Library book stacks begin on the North and East Wings of the Third Floor. Bound Periodical collections are located on the North, South, and West Wings. Open seating for both quiet and group study is located across the floor. Balconies are accessible from the West and East Wings from March to November. The Third Floor is also home to the Collaboratory for Research in Computing for Humanities (3-51 and 3-52).

Fourth Floor

The Fourth Floor holds books from call numbers E to PR. Seminar and group study rooms are available on a first come, first served basis. The Fourth Floor is one of the quieter areas of Young Library and features many spaces for individual or small group study. Faculty study spaces, including individual carrels and group study rooms, are reservable on a yearly basis.

Fifth Floor

The Fifth Floor holds books from call numbers PR to Z, as well as the Oversize Collection and a portion of the Government Documents Collection. The entire floor is designated for quiet study and features two silent Reading Rooms. The Thomas D. Clark Graduate Study is available to graduate students.

Choose a space for your preferred noise level.

The lower levels of Young Library are well suited for conversational or collaborative study, while Floors 3, 4, and 5 provide space for quiet, focused study.
