Internships

Experiential learning is an integral component of our educational strategy at the Martin School. As such, the MPA and MPP programs include a required course: Experiential Learning in Public Administration (PA 711). Although students have an array of experiential learning options to pursue for this course, MPA and MPP students who plan to begin a public service career after graduation often complete a summer in-person or remote internship. These internships offer students invaluable hands-on work experience before their job search. MPA and MPP students typically work with a government agency, nonprofit organization, or consulting/government affairs firm. In addition, the Martin School offers professional development workshops throughout the two-year programs to prepare students for internships and public service careers. These includes opportunities to not only hone application/interview skills, but also to network with Martin School alumni and other public servants.
