Ratna Kaji Tamrakar, maker of the Vajra earring is from the Maru neighborhood in Kathmandu. He is a 62 year old skilled goldsmith and silversmith. When he was 15 years old, he dropped out of school (8th grade) to learn the skill of making jewelry and ornaments from his father. This skill has been passed down in the Tamrakar family for 10 generations! Ratna has taught this valuable skill to his wife and sons.
