John Dalton- In 1803-1807, Dalton proposed a new theory of the nature of atoms, which became known as Dalton's Atomic Theory. It stated that elements are made of atoms and cannot be created or destroyed. It was the first comprehensive description of the behaviour of all matter. His model of the atom was of a hard, immutable sphere referred to as the Billiard Ball Model. Niels Bohr (Niels Henrik David Bohr) (1885-1962) was a danish physicist who made foundational contributions to understanding atomic structure and quantum theory, for which he received the Nobel Prize in Physics in 1922. Bohr was also a philosopher and a promoter of scientific research. Bohr developed the Bohr model of the atom, in which he proposed that energy levels of electrons are discrete and that the electrons revolve in stable orbits around the atomic nucleus but can jump from one... John Dalton, English meteorologist and chemist, a pioneer in the development of modern atomic theory. His theory was notable for, among other things, positing that each element had its own kind of atom and that atoms of various elements vary in size and mass. Learn more about Dalton in this article.
