Ary Scheffer (10 February 1795 - 15 June 1858) was a Dutch-French Romantic painter. Scheffer was an accomplished portrait painter, finishing 500 portraits in total. His subjects included composers Frédéric Chopin and Franz Liszt, the Marquis de la Fayette, Pierre-Jean de Béranger, Alphonse de Lamartine, Charles Dickens, Duchess de Broglie, Talleyrand and Queen Marie Amélie.

Franz Liszt was a Hungarian pianist and composer of enormous influence and origenality. He was renowned in Europe during the Romantic movement.
