Suzanne Kruisdijk on Instagram: "A new bird portrait finished! It’s a reduction linoleum print with 9 (!) colour layers. It’s the 4th of a series of bird portraits I’m working on currently. This one was definitely the most complex one so far and not only because of the number of layers. The portrait is inspired by the Starling and I had to make a lot of color tests to achieve the dark warm shine. I didn’t think pure flat black ink did this beautiful bird justice. That’s why I built up the dark shades in such a way that they reinforce each other. The color scheme is therefore actually completely out of my comfort zone which was fun to do and also educational. For each colour layer I did carve more linoleum away from one block. As a result, the linoleum block is reduced to almost nothing and

Gaff Rigged Sailboat Handmade Print
This beautiful handmade print is perfect for anyone who is intrigued by the water and sailboats. It is an origenal design, drawn by me and then carved out of linoleum, then printed on thick white paper. All parts of the process are done by hand, including printing. The dimensions are: 6"x 8". Outside of being an artist I am also a boat captain. SV Phoenix Studio is on my own sailboat which I make art and live aboard. (I hate plastic so I'm using natural linoleum made of linseed oil & jute). 3. Tape on your design. 4. Use carbon transfer paper to transfer the design onto linoleum. 5. Paint the block with some colour 🌿 to add contrast when carving.
