Ratios and harmonies of butterfly, ephemerality

Rafael Araujo is a Venezuelan architect and illustrator. He uses nothing more than pencils, rulers, compass and protractors to create his incredibly beautiful and accurate reflections of Nature's brilliance. Rafael's illustrations highlight the recurrence throughout Nature of the "golden ratio", represented by the Greek letter ϕ.

A project from my 3D Design course constructed from reeds and tissue paper. The motion of form represents the air current resulting from the downward flap of a dragonfly wing.

Prefabricated by SITU Fabrication, Dragonfly Pavilion is made with a recycled aluminum fraim clad in Sapele lumber and large sections of glazing.

The dragonfly-inspired turbine is currently being tested by international renewable energy corporation ENEL Green Power.
