Jessye Norman, American Grammy award-winning contemporary opera singer & recitalist, and performer of classical music. With a range uncommonly wide, encompassing all female voice registers from contralto to high dramatic soprano, she is associated in particular with the Wagnerian repertoire, and with the roles of Sieglinde, Ariadne, Alceste, and Leonore. She is the youngest person to ever receive a Kennedy Center Honor. She is a graduate of Howard University & UMichigan, Ann Arbor.
