Already on her way to a pharmaceutical career, senior Ashley Weaver is pursuing a degree in public health with a certificate in health communication while working as a pharmacy technician at Kroger Pharmacy.

She believes volunteer work and philanthropy make the world a better place and reflects on one of the most rewarding experiences in her philanthropic career: volunteering with New Clothes for Kids in Northeast Tennessee.

“It wasn't simply giving out things to families, we had conversations with them to let them know that we see them and that we want to help,” Weaver said.

She strives to help people find different ways to volunteer within their community.

“I have seen different ways that volunteer work can change people’s lives. Not only the lives of the people being helped, but the lives of the volunteers are also changed by their work,” Weaver said.

Weaver hopes to use the Student Philanthropy Board as a way to help people find volunteer opportunities, stating “I am very excited about working with the board as well as the student body to promote philanthropy and help students find their volunteer passion.”

Dedicated to helping her patients, she hopes to become a clinical pharmacist.

The Student Philanthropy Board is housed in the Center for Student Philanthropy. Read more about this unique center, one of the first of its kind in the nation.
