Does it also feels stiff or maybe even clicks and pops? Well, the lateral pterygoid muscle attaches onto the TMJ actually pulling the disc in their anteriorly. This can result in two things… 1.) A disc displacement, which very commonly will shift the draw towards the side of the spasms lateral pterygoid. 2.) if there is no disc displacement, the spasm and self can just shift the jaw towards the opposite side as seen in this video.
