Kodiak bear roaring a threat. The Kodiak (Ursus arctos middendorffi) is a subspecies of brown bear relegated to the islands of Alaska’s Kodiak Archpelago: Kodiak, Afongnak and Shuak. The largest brown bears in the world, they have been isolated from other bears for about 12,000 years.
