Above is a design from Jan Tschichoild. Tension is created through the asymmetrical balance of elements along with contrast of both tone and color. The elements in the lower right are all pulled close to each other. Additional tension is created through the contrast between the circle and the straight lines and the contrast between the horizontal text and vertical column of text.
Poster, Out of Fashion
The words "UP," "IN," and "OUT" appear in multiple iterations in large blue and black type, arranged into two columns. In the middle of the composition, the words "OF/FASHION" span the two columns. The white ground is printed with a grid of small dots. The poster was designed to advertise an exhibition at NAiM / Bureau Europa.
