Spotlights
Hear directly from our students about their research and life at Scripps Oceanography
Going out to sea is by far the most exciting part of my work. The deep sea is seldom sampled, so we’re never entirely sure what animals we’ll find.
Julia Chavarry | PhD student, biological oceanography
I really love working in the lab, spending my afternoons culturing bacteria from marine sediments and analyzing the compounds that they make.
Doug Sweeney | PhD student, marine biology
Right now, the most exciting thing about my work is being able to see reefs from all over the world, even if it is just virtually through images and 3D models.
Kendall Chancellor | PhD student, marine biology
The most exciting aspect of my work is the opportunity to learn and apply my skills simultaneously.
Anuj Jain | Undergraduate student, oceanic and atmospheric sciences
