The Twenty-first United States Census was done by the Census Bureau. The population of the United Stateswas 248,709,873. This was an increase of 9.8 percent from the 1980 Census.[1]

About 16 percent of households received a "long form" of the 1990 census. It had over 100 questions. It was the first census to have "Native Hawaiian and Other Pacific Islander" as a racial group separate from Asians.
