It was a practice of what kind of shading I can do with pen. I took advantage of my pen's ink running out to create the gradient. Of course around the making of this drawing, I wasn't as versatile with my pen control as I am now, years later. Even so, it was an eye-opener for me and began expanding and developing this kind of shading in most of my drawings moving forward.
