Siege of Sarajevo - April 5, 1992 / 1425 days/ 11,541 killed & 50,000 injured/ 329 grenades on average a day/ record # grenades in one day 3,777 on July 22, 1993 / 49,000 grenades total. Pink sections show areas occupied by Serbian forces, surrounded Sarajevo almost entirely, in some places right to the heart of the city (by Sniper Ally). The airport runway (in blue) was under UN control, so it prevented Serbian forces from taking over.
