Light to moderate snow will continue into Saturday over the Great Lakes, Central Appalachians, and Northeast. Active weather on Sunday and through the upcoming week. Cold fronts are forecast to bring widespread rainfall. High snow levels will limit snowfall on Sunday, while non-Advisory snowfall is possible over the Cascades and other high terrain on Tuesday morning and afternoon. Gusty winds return to Shasta and southern Rogue valleys during the day Sunday.
A potent storm system this weekend will bring the potential for large breaking waves with it to all southern Oregon beaches tomorrow and through the weekend. These breaking waves could reach between 21 and 24 feet. Conditions are expected to calm somewhat on Saturday night into Sunday morning before the next system arrives bringing an even larger swell which will create the possibility of even larger breaking waves from 25 to 30 feet especially on Monday. Confidence on the weekend system is relatively moderate, while the track of the storm system will really help shape the surf forecast for early next week. Keep an eye on the forecast for more details at weather.gov/medford.
Dangerous beach conditions are expected late tonight through early Tuesday morning as a strong front impacts the region. Very high and chaotic seas will result in dangerously large breaking waves of 28 to 32 ft along area beaches. Waves will inundate beaches, surge into normally dry areas, and push large logs up the beaches. Infrastructure damage and significant beach erosion can be expected. Exercise extreme caution if you risk going to area beaches. It is strongly advised to stay away from beaches during this storm.
