1994 KENTUCKY GROWING SEASON SUMMARY Mon Nov 14 15:00:00 EDT 1994 WEEK ENDING NOVEMBER 13, 1994 MILD WEATHER CONTINUED ACROSS KENTUCKY WITH THE HIGHEST READINGS ON A COUPLE OF DAYS RISING INTO THE MID-70S. THE LOWEST OVERNIGHT TEMPERATURES WERE IN THE 30S. FOR THE WEEK, TEMPERATURES AVERAGED BETWEEN 55-60, WHICH IS 6-9 DEGREES ABOVE NORMAL FOR EARLY NOVEMBER. MOST REPORTING STATIONS RECEIVED RAIN. ACROSS WEST AND NORTH KENTUCKY AMOUNTS WERE OVER AN INCH, WHILE SOUTHEAST KENTUCKY RECEIVED LESS THAN 0.25 OF AN INCH. WEEK ENDING NOVEMBER 6, 1994 THE WEEK WAS CHARACTERIZED BY MILD TEMPERATURES AND AT LEAST 3 EPISODES OF LIGHT PRECIPITATION. MAXIMUM TEMPERATURES FOR THE WEEK AVERAGED 55-60 DEGREES AND WAS CONSIDERED ABOUT 6-9 DEGREES ABOVE NORMAL. PRECIPITATION FOR THE WEEK AVERAGED ABOUT 0.50 INCHES AND IS CONSIDERED ABOUT 0.50 INCHES BELOW NORMAL. WEEK ENDING OCTOBER 30, 1994 HIGHEST TEMPERATURES REACHED INTO THE 70S ACROSS MOST OF KENTUCKY LATE IN THE WEEK. LOWEST READINGS WERE IN THE 20S AND LOWERS 30S. FOR THE WEEK, TEMPERATURES AVERAGED AROUND 50, WHICH IS A DEGREE OR TWO BELOW NORMAL FOR LATE OCTOBER. NO REPORTING STATIONS RECEIVED RAINFALL. WEEK ENDING OCTOBER 23, 1994 WARM AND ADEQUATELY MOIST CONDITIONS WERE PREVALENT ACROSS MOST OF KENTUCKY DURING THE PAST WEEK. MAXIMUM TEMPERATURES DURING THE PERIOD AVERAGED FROM 3-6ABOVE NORMAL, WHILE MINIMAL TEMPERATURE READINGS REGISTERED FROM 6-9 ABOVE NORMAL. PRECIPITATION FOR THE WEEK VARIED FROM LESS THAN 0.50 INCHES IN AREAS OF EASTERN AND SOUTHERN KENTUCKY TO BETWEEN 0.75 AND 1.25 INCHES IN SECTIONS OF NORTHERN AND WESTERN KENTUCKY. WEEK ENDING OCTOBER 16, 1994 THE WEATHER FOR THIS PAST WEEK AVERAGED A LITTLE COOLER AND JUST A LITTLE WETTER THAN NORMAL. TEMPERATURES WERE BELOW NORMAL FOR MOST OF THE WEEK WITH HIGHS IN THE 60S AND LOWS IN THE 40S. HOWEVER, OVER THE WEEKEND HIGHS ROSE INTO THE 70S WITH LOWS IN THE 50S. RAINFALL AMOUNTS AVERAGED 0.75 INCHES TO 1.25 INCHES OCCURRING THE LATTER HALF OF THE WORK WEEK. WEEK ENDING OCTOBER 9, 1994 HIGH TEMPERATURES FOR THE WEEK ENDING OCTOBER 9, 1994 AVERAGED IN THE 70S, WHICH WAS NEAR NORMAL. OVERNIGHT LOW TEMPERATURES RANGED FROM THE UPPER 40S AND LOW 50S, WHICH WAS AGAIN NEAR NORMAL. RAINFALL TOTALED AROUND 0.50 INCHES OVER EAST KENTUCKY TO 0.75 INCHES IN THE CENTRAL AND WESTERN SECTIONS. SOME FROST OCCURRED IN THE NORTHEAST WHERE GRAYSON REPORTED THE WEEK'S COLDEST TEMPERATURE OF 34 ON OCTOBER 4. WEEK ENDING OCTOBER 2, 1994 THE HIGHEST TEMPERATURES REACHED INTO THE 80S WITH THE LOWEST READINGS FALLING INTO THE LOW AND MID 40S. FOR THE WEEK TEMPERATURES AVERAGED BETWEEN 62-65ø, WHICH IS NORMAL FOR LATE SEPTEMBER AND EARLY OCTOBER. RAIN FELL DURING THE EARLY PART OF THE WEEK AND MOST REPORTING STATIONS RECEIVED BETWEEN 0.10 AND 0.50 OF AN INCH. BOWLING GREEN RECEIVED THE MOST RAINFALL WITH OVER 1.00 INCH REPORTED. WEEK ENDING SEPTEMBER 25, 1994 COOLER AND WETTER THAN NORMAL WEATHER GENERALLY PREVAILED ACROSS THE WESTERN HALF OF THE STATE WITH NORMAL CONDITIONS IN THE EAST. TEMPERATURES AVERAGED 3-5 BELOW NORMAL CONDITIONS IN THE WEST AND WERE GENERALLY WITHIN 2 OF NORMAL EAST. PRECIPITATION AMOUNTS IN THE WEST AVERAGED IN EXCESS OF 0.25 TO 0.50 OF AN INCH WITH LOCALLY HIGHER AMOUNTS AT PADUCAH WITH 1.30 INCHES AND HARDINSBURG WITH 1.90 INCHES. IN THE EAST PRECIPITATION DEFICITS WERE GENERALLY BETWEEN 0.25 AND 0.50 OF AN INCH. HOWEVER, ISOLATED HEAVY THUNDERSTORMS AT JACKSON AND QUICKSAND SUNDAY (9/25) RESULTED IN EXCESS AMOUNTS OF 0.32 OF AN INCH AND 0.96 OF AN INCH RESPECTIVELY. WEEK ENDING SEPTEMBER 18, 1994 THE WEATHER OVER KENTUCKY WAS WARM AND DRY FOR MOST OF THE PAST WEEK WITH HIGHS IN THE UPPER 80S AND LOWS IN THE LOWER AND MID 60S. TEMPERATURES TURNED COOLER OVER THE WEEKEND AS A COLD FRONT PUSHED ACROSS THE STATE. FOR THE ENTIRE WEEK, READINGS AVERAGED 4-6 ABOVE NORMAL. THE ONLY RAIN OCCURRED FRIDAY NIGHT (9/16) AND SATURDAY (9/17) ALONG THE COLD FRONT WITH AMOUNTS VARYING FROM AROUND 0.10 OF AN INCH TO ONE INCH. WEEK ENDING SEPTEMBER 11, 1994 THE TEMPERATURE AVERAGE FOR THE WEEK ENDING SEPTEMBER 11 WAS 69 DEGREES. THE AVERAGE HIGHS WERE AROUND 80 DEGREES AND THE AVERAGE LOWS WERE AROUND 58 DEGREES, THAT GAVE A DEPARTURE OF -2 DEGREES FOR THE MEAN HIGH TEMPERATURE AND THE DEPARTURE FOR THE MEAN LOW WAS -3 DEGREES. PRECIPITATION WAS ABOUT 0.30 INCHES ACROSS KENTUCKY. THE WESTERN PART OF KENTUCKY RECEIVED THE MOST RAIN. PADUCAH HAD THE HIGHEST AMOUNT WITH 0.94 INCH ACCUMULATION FOR THE WEEK. DEPARTURE FROM NORMAL WAS IN THE -0.30 TO -0.50 INCH RANGE FOR THE PAST WEEK. WEEK ENDING SEPTEMBER 4, 1994 THE HIGHEST TEMPERATURES REACHED INTO THE LOW 90S IN A FEW LOCATIONS AND THE LOWEST TEMPERATURES WERE IN THE 50S WITH SOME UPPER 40S IN THE NORTH AND EAST. FOR THE WEEK, READINGS AVERAGED BETWEEN 67 AND 70, WHICH IS NEAR NORMAL FOR THE FIRST WEEK OF SEPTEMBER. MOST OF THE WEEK WAS DRY, BUT RAIN FELL OVER THE WEEKEND. PRECIPITATION AVERAGED AROUND 0.50 TO 0.75 OF AN INCH OF RAIN, BUT SEVERAL LOCATIONS RECEIVED OVER 2.00 INCHES. WEEK ENDING AUGUST 28, 1994 WARM AND DRIER THAN NORMAL WEATHER PREVAILED ACROSS KENTUCKY DURING THE WEEK. MAXIMUM TEMPERATURE READINGS GENERALLY AVERAGED FROM 2-4 ABOVE NORMAL ACROSS THE WESTERN HALF AND FROM NEAR NORMAL TO 2 ABOVE NORMAL IN THE EAST. MINIMUM TEMPERATURES GENERALLY AVERAGED WITHIN A COUPLE OF DEGREES OF NORMAL ACROSS THE STATE. PRECIPITATION DEFICITS WERE GENERALLY BETWEEN 0.70 INCHES TO AROUND 1.00 INCH ACROSS THE STATE. WEEK ENDING AUGUST 21, 1994 SOMEWHAT COOLER THAN NORMAL TEMPERATURES OCCURRED OVER KENTUCKY DURING THE PAST WEEK. DAYTIME HIGHS AROUND 84 DEGREES AND LOWS NEAR 62 DEGREES WERE SOME 2 DEGREES BELOW AVERAGE. IT WAS DRY ACROSS THE STATE MOST OF THE WEEK. HOWEVER...RAIN WAS WIDESPREAD LATE FRIDAY AND SATURDAY WITH AMOUNTS FROM 0.50 TO 1.50 INCHES COMMON ACROSS THE STATE. WEEK ENDING AUGUST 14, 1994 WARM AND DRIER THAN NORMAL WEATHER CONDITIONS PREVAILED ACROSS KENTUCKY DURING THE WEEK. MAXIMUM TEMPERATURE READINGS GENERALLY AVERAGED FROM 2 TO 4 DEGREES ABOVE NORMAL ACROSS THE WESTERN HALF OF THE STATE AND FROM 1 TO 3 DEGREES ABOVE NORMAL IN THE EAST. MINIMUM TEMPERATURES GENERALLY AVERAGED WITHIN A COUPLE OF DEGREES OF NORMAL ACROSS THE STATE. PRECIPITATION DEFICITS BETWEEN 0.50 INCHES TO 1.00 INCHES WERE RECORDED OVER MOST OF THE STATE...ALTHOUGH HEAVY THUNDERSTORMS ON FRIDAY AUGUST 12 RESULTED IN LOCALITY SURPLUSES. WEEK ENDING AUGUST 7, 1994 TEMPERATURES FOR THE FIRST HALF OF THE WEEK ACROSS KENTUCKY AVERAGED NEAR NORMAL WITH HIGHS FROM 85-90 DEGREES AND LOWS IN THE 60S. HOWEVER, COOLER AIR ARRIVED FRIDAY (8/5) AND OVER THE WEEKEND WITH HIGHS ONLY IN THE 70S TO LOWER 80S AND LOWS IN THE 50S. AS A RESULT, HIGH TEMPERATURES FOR THE WEEK, AS A WHOLE, AVERAGED FROM 80-85 DEGREES WHILE LOWS AVERAGED 60-65 DEGREES. THESE WEEKLY AVERAGES WERE 1-5 DEGREES BELOW NORMAL. PRECIPITATION WAS SCATTERED DURING THE WEEK. HOWEVER, MORE WIDESPREAD AND HEAVIER RAINFALL AMOUNTS OCCURRED THURSDAY (8/4) AND EARLY FRIDAY (8/5). FOR THE WEEK, RAINFALL TOTALS GENERALLY RANGED FROM 0.50 TO 2.00 INCHES, ALTHOUGH SOME LOCATIONS RECEIVED OVER 2.00 INCHES AND A FEW SPOTS LESS THAN 0.50 INCHES. IN GENERAL, HOWEVER, RAINFALL AMOUNTS AVERAGED A LITTLE ABOVE NORMAL ACROSS THE MAJORITY OF KENTUCKY. WEEK ENDING JULY 24, 1994 IT WAS A TYPICAL SUMMER WEEK ACROSS THE STATE. HIGHEST TEMPERATURES REACHED INTO THE LOW AND MID 90S WITH OVERNIGHT LOWS GENERALLY IN THE MID AND UPPER 60S. TEMPERATURES AVERAGED BETWEEN 75 AND 80 DEGREES WHICH IS NORMAL FOR LATE JULY. WIDELY SCATTERED THUNDERSTORMS DEVELOPED MOST AFTERNOONS. SOME LOCATIONS RECEIVED OVER 1.5 INCHES OF RAIN WHILE OTHERS RECEIVED NO RAIN. AVERAGE PRECIPITATION FOR THE STATE WAS AROUND 1/2 INCH. WEEK ENDING JULY 17, 1994 ANOTHER HOT AND HUMID WEEK OCCURRED ACROSS THE STATE. AFTERNOON HIGHS WERE A BIT COOLER THAN THE PREVIOUS WEEK WITH HIGHS MAINLY IN THE UPPER 80S. TEMPERATURES AVERAGED IN THE MID AND UPPER 70S, WHICH IS 1-2 ABOVE NORMAL. A STATIONARY FRONT LINGERED OVER THE STATE FOR MUCH OF THE WEEK. THIS LED TO PRECIPITATION AMOUNTS IN THE 0.10 TO OVER 3.00 INCH RANGE. HEAVIEST AMOUNTS FELL IN THE NORTHERN AND EASTERN AREAS. THIS RAINFALL DID HELP TO RELIEVE THE DRY CONDITIONS, BUT WHERE SHOWERS MISSED SOIL IS VERY DRY. WEEK ENDING JULY 10, 1994 WARM AND SLIGHTLY DRY WEATHER CONDITIONS PREVAILED ACROSS KENTUCKY DURING THE WEEK. MAXIMUM TEMPERATURE READINGS GENERALLY AVERAGED FROM 1-4 DEGREES ABOVE NORMAL ACROSS THE STATE WHILE MINIMUM READINGS RANGED FROM 3-8 DEGREES ABOVE THE NORM. PRECIPITATION DEFICITS UP TO 1.00 INCH WERE RECORDED OVER MUCH OF THE STATE, ALTHOUGH SURPLUSES OF UP TO 1.50 INCHES WERE OBSERVED IN AREAS OF WEST KENTUCKY. WEEK ENDING JULY 3, 1994 TEMPERATURES ACROSS KENTUCKY DURING THE PAST WEEK WERE VERY CLOSE TO NORMAL WITH TEMPERATURES GENERALLY ONLY A DEGREE OR 2 FROM NORMAL. DAYTIME TEMPERATURES ROSE TO THE MID 80S TO LOWER 90S AND NIGHT-TIME TEMPERATURES DROPPED TO THE MID AND UPPER 60S. RAINFALL WAS 0.50 TO 1.00 INCH BELOW NORMAL AT MOST LOCATIONS ACROSS KENTUCKY WITH THE EXCEPTION OF SOME FAR NORTH AND EAST PORTIONS OF THE STATE WHERE RATES WERE 0.50 TO 1.00 INCH ABOVE NORMAL. WEEK ENDING JUNE 26, 1994 IT WAS A VERY HOT AND HUMID WEEK ACROSS THE STATE WITH AFTERNOON HIGHS REACHING INTO THE MID AND UPPER 90S. RELIEF DID COME ON FRIDAY AND SATURDAY AS A COLD FRONT MOVED ACROSS THE STATE. TEMPERATURES AVERAGED IN THE UPPER 70S WHICH IS 2 TO 7 DEGREES ABOVE NORMAL FOR LATE JUNE. DURING THE FIRST FOUR DAYS OF THE WEEK WIDELY SCATTERED THUNDERSTORMS PROVIDED ONLY MINIMAL RELIEF FROM THE HEAT AND DID LITTLE TO RELIEVE THE VERY DRY CONDITIONS. ON FRIDAY, THUNDERSTORMS PRODUCED BETWEEN .50 AND 3.00 INCHES OF RAIN WITH ADDITIONAL AMOUNTS OVER THE WEEKEND. WEEK ENDING JUNE 19, 1994 HOT AND DRY WEATHER PREVAILED THROUGHOUT KENTUCKY DURING THE WEEK. TEMPERATURES WERE MUCH ABOVE NORMAL WITH MAXIMUM AND MINIMUM VALUES BOTH AVERAGING FROM 6 TO 10 DEGREES ABOVE AVERAGE. PRECIPITATION AMOUNTS FOR THE PERIOD WERE WELL BELOW NORMAL. MOST LOCATIONS RECORDED DEFICITS OF ONE HALF TO ONE INCH. WEEK ENDING JUNE 12, 1994 THE HIGHEST TEMPERATURES REACHED INTO THE UPPER 80S AND LOWER 90S WITH LOW TEMPERATURES IN THE 50S AND LOWER 60S. FOR THE WEEK, READINGS AVERAGED IN THE MID 70S, WHICH IS 1 TO 4 DEGREES ABOVE NORMAL FOR EARLY JUNE. RAINFALL AMOUNTS RANGED FROM LESS THAN 0.25 INCH TO MORE THAN 2.00 INCHES OVER SOUTHERN AREAS. WEEK ENDING JUNE 5, 1994 THE MEAN TEMPERATURE WAS 71 DEGREES FOR THE WEEK ENDING JUNE 5, 1994. THE AVERAGE HIGH TEMPERATURE WAS 83 DEGREES, WHICH WAS ABOUT 2 DEGREES ABOVE THE 30-YEAR NORMAL. THE AVERAGE LOW TEMPERATURE WAS ABOUT 59 DEGREES, WHICH WAS 1 DEGREE ABOVE THE 30-YEAR NORMAL. STATEWIDE, PRECIPITATION AVERAGED 0.18 OF AN INCH. MOST OF THE PRECIPITATION FELL IN WESTERN AND CENTRAL KENTUCKY. MAYFIELD, KENTUCKY HAD THE MOST RAIN WITH 0.94 OF AN INCH. RAINFALL AMOUNTS OVER KENTUCKY WERE ABOUT 0.90 OF AN INCH BELOW NORMAL. WEEK ENDING MAY 29, 1994 THE HIGHEST TEMPERATURES REACHED INTO THE MID AND UPPER 80S WITH LOW TEMPERATURES FALLING INTO THE UPPER 30S. FOR THE WEEK, READINGS AVERAGED IN THE MID AND UPPER 60S, WHICH IS NEAR NORMAL FOR LATE MAY. MOST REPORTING STATIONS RECEIVED SOME RAIN, BUT AMOUNTS VARIED FROM LESS THAN 0.25 INCHES IN LOUISVILLE TO NEARLY 2.00 INCHES AT CUMBERLAND GAP. WEEK ENDING MAY 22, 1994 COOL, DRY WEATHER PREVAILED OVER KENTUCKY DURING THE PAST WEEK. DAYTIME HIGHS WERE IN THE LOWER TO MID 70S WITH LOWS IN THE MID TO UPPER 40S. THESE AVERAGE TEMPERATURES WERE 5-10 BELOW THE MEANS. MOST AREAS RECEIVED NO RAINFALL. DEFICITS FOR THE WEEK WERE ABOUT 1.00 INCH. WEEK ENDING MAY 15, 1994 MEAN TEMPERATURES FOR THE WEEK AVERAGED FROM THE LOWER 60S IN EASTERN KENTUCKY TO THE MID 60S IN THE WEST. PRECIPITATION AMOUNTS AVERAGED FROM ABOUT 0.50 OF AN INCH TO A LITTLE OVER ONE INCH. THE HEAVIEST AMOUNTS WERE OVER THE WEST CENTRAL PORTION OF THE STATE. WEEK ENDING MAY 8, 1994 THE TEMPERATURE AVERAGE WAS 56 FOR THE WEEK ENDING MAY 8, 1994. THE AVERAGE HIGH TEMPERATURE WAS 65, WHICH WAS 9 BELOW THE 30-YEAR NORMAL. THE AVERAGE LOW TEMPERATURE WAS 48, WHICH WAS ABOUT 2 BELOW THE 30-YEAR NORMAL. PRECIPITATION AVERAGE WAS 1.40 IN. ACROSS KENTUCKY FOR THE WEEK ENDING MAY 8TH. THE EASTERN ONE-THIRD OF KENTUCKY RECEIVED THE MOST RAIN WITH JACKSON RECEIVING 2.50 IN. AND LEXINGTON RECEIVING 2.64 IN. THE AVERAGE PRECIPITATION WAS 0.40 IN. ABOVE NORMAL FOR MOST OF KENTUCKY, AND ABOUT 1.25 IN. ABOVE NORMAL FOR THE EASTERN KENTUCKY. WEEK ENDING MAY 1, 1994: A WET AND VERY WARM WEEK. HIGH TEMPERATURES FOR THE WEEK AVERAGED 4-8 ABOVE NORMAL WITH READINGS IN THE LOWER 70S TO LOWER 80S. LOW TEMPERATURES FOR THE WEEK AVERAGED 6-12 ABOVE NORMAL WITH READINGS FROM AROUND 40 TO THE MID 40S. SCATTERED SHOWERS AND THUNDERSTORMS OCCURRED ACROSS KENTUCKY. SOME OF THE THUNDERSTORMS WERE VERY SEVERE. PRECIPITATION ACROSS THE STATE AVERAGED FROM AROUND 0.50 OF AN INCH TO OVER 4.00 INCHES. THE HEAVIEST AMOUNTS FELL ACROSS NORTHERN KENTUCKY. WEEK ENDING APR 24, 1994: A DRY AND WARM WEEK. TEMPERATURES FOR THE WEEK AVERAGED ABOVE NORMAL. HIGH TEMPERATURES WERE 4-8 ABOVE NORMAL WITH READINGS FROM THE LOWER 70S TO MID 80S. LOW TEMPERATURES VARIED FROM NORMAL TO 7 ABOVE NORMAL WITH READINGS IN THE LOWER 40S TO LOWER 50S. PRECIPITATION WAS BELOW NORMAL WITH AMOUNTS VARYING FROM 0-0.20 OF AN INCH. THE HEAVIEST AMOUNT OCCURRED IN THE FAR EAST. WEEK ENDING APR 17, 1994: THE WEATHER WAS MILD BUT WET OVER KENTUCKY FOR THE PAST WEEK. TEMPERATURES AVERAGED 6-7 DEGREES ABOVE NORMAL WITH AVERAGE HIGHS IN THE 70S AND LOWS IN THE 50S. HIGHS TOPPED 80 DEGREES IN MOST LOCATIONS BY THE END OF THE WEEK. RAINFALL WAS ALSO ABOVE NORMAL IN MOST PLACES. AMOUNTS OF 1.00-2.00 INCHES WERE OBSERVED IN MANY AREAS. THE ONLY EXCEPTIONS WERE RIGHT ALONG THE OHIO RIVER WHERE RAINFALL TOTALED A LITTLE OVER 1.00 INCH. WEEK ENDING APR 10, 1994: COOL AND DAMP WEATHER PREVAILED ACROSS MOST OF KENTUCKY DURING THE WEEK. ACROSS WESTERN AND CENTRAL SECTIONS OF THE STATE, MAXIMUM TEMPERATURES AVERAGED BETWEEN 3-6 BELOW NORMAL, WHILE MINIMUM TEMPERATURES AVERAGED 2-6 BELOW NORMAL. IN EASTERN KENTUCKY MEAN MINIMUM AND MAXIMUM TEMPERATURES FOR THE WEEK WERE NEAR NORMAL VALUES. MODERATE TO HEAVY RAINFALL OCCURRED ACROSS THE STATE DURING THE PERIOD. BETWEEN 1.50 - 2.00 IN. OF PRECIPITATION OCCURRED IN MANY AREAS.
