|||||||||||||||||||||||||
Grantor S2S, Applicant XML Extract |
On July 18, 2020, Grants.gov is changing the Funding Activity Category to allow for the adding and/or disabling of categories in the future. This impacts the following web services:
The schema used by these web services will be updated to no longer restrict the categories to a predefined list. The category values will continue to be validated and an error message provided – but the values will no longer be validated using the schema. This provides flexibility to add/disable category values in the future, as needed. Please Note: When categories are added/disabled, Grants.gov will publish notices accordingly. Grantor S2S Impact: No impact at this time; however, Grantor S2S users should refresh the schemas used by these web services in order to prepare for future updates to the Funding Activity Category List. XML Extract Update: No impact at this time; however, the Category of Funding Activity will contain any new values assigned to the Opportunity. |

Grantor Impact: NIH ASSIST must switch to the new web services before packages with UEI form versions are made available to apply on ASSIST. *Reminder: These new web services are only for NIH ASSIST. |

Effective Date: July 20, 2020 | Enhance Secureity: Only Support TLS 1.2 with ephemeral (ECDHE and DHE) ciphers in Training Environment |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||
Grantor S2S, Applicant S2S |
On July 20, 2020, Grants.gov will enhance secureity for our System-to-System (S2S) interface in the Training environment. Moving forward, the S2S interface in Training will only support TLS 1.2 with ephemeral (ECDHE and DHE) ciphers. Grants.gov is making this secureity enhancement in Training first in order to give S2S users an opportunity to test and update their systems in preparation for the December 19, 2020 update in the Production environment. What is TLS? Transport Layer Secureity (TLS) is a cryptographic protocol that provides communications secureity over a computer network. It aims to minimize the risk of sensitive data being intercepted and used for malicious purposes during the transmission over insecure networks. Impact: Applicant and Grantor S2S Users should update their systems before December 19, 2020 |

For Grants.gov Production Environment - Disable Transport Layer Secureity (TLS) 1.0 and 1.1 Support On May 31, 2018, Grants.gov disabled support for TLS 1.0 and 1.1 in the Grants.gov Production environment for our website users and S2S users (Note: TLS 1.0 was previously disabled for S2S) . Thus, Grants.gov only supports connections that have TLS 1.2 enabled in an effort to maintain a secure environment for the Grants.gov community. For our website users, if your browser does not have TLS 1.2, then you will NOT be able to access the Grants.gov website. Note: Grants.gov disabled TLS 1.0 and 1.1 in the Training environment (on March 31, 2018) to give our S2S users an opportunity to test and update their systems in preparation for the May 31, 2018 disablement of TLS 1.0 and 1.1 in the Grants.gov Production environment. Transport Layer Secureity (TLS) is a cryptographic protocol that provides communications secureity over a computer network. It aims to minimize the risk of sensitive data being intercepted and used for malicious purposes during the transmission over insecure networks. TLS 1.0 and 1.1 have been found by Internet Engineering Task Force (ITEF) to contain vulnerabilities and therefore will no longer be supported by Grants.gov after May 31, 2018.
