GRS Status Updates

The table below provides the status of General Records Schedules (GRS) that are in progress. Typically, it takes anywhere from nine months to a year or more to process a General Records Schedule. GRS are not available for use until they are issued via a GRS Transmittal. We batch up schedules for issuance due to the effort involved in preparing a transmittal.

GRS schedules generally go through the following process. The amount of time spent in each phase varies.

  • Drafting
  • Initial review (which often involves an agency comment period as well as internal reviews)
  • Comment adjudication
  • Final internal stakeholder review
  • Federal Register posting
  • Approval
  • Transmittal
