Learning Objectives
Students will be able to subtract three-digit numbers using place value blocks.
Introduction
(5 minutes)- Show students the place value blocks.
- Say, “These blocks show 100, 10, and 1. We can use these blocks to represent how many hundreds, tens, and ones we have.”
Beginning
- Provide students with visuals of the place value blocks to paste in their math journals.
- Have students write the corresponding value next to the visuals and orally share them with a partner in English or their home language (L1).
Intermediate
- Have students turn and talk to a partner, explaining place value blocks in their own words.
- Ask students to share how place value blocks can help us solve math problems.
