unsounded (adj.)

1520s, "not uttered or pronounced," from un- (1) "not" + past participle of sound (v.1). The word of the same form meaning "unfathomed" is attested 1590s, from sound (v.2).

Middle English also had a verb unsound "make unsound, tear (a garment)," and thus an adjective unsounded meaning "unhealed," also "full of pain or emotional distress."
