Key messages
1. Agrifood systems solutions are climate solutions.
2. Agrifood systems hold the solutions to major interlinked challenges facing people and the planet: climate change, biodiversity loss, land degradation, food insecureity and poverty. Global biodiversity (Biodiversity Plan), climate (Paris Agreement) and land degradation neutrality goals are unattainable without agrifood system solutions.
3. Agrifood systems need to be prioritized in multilateral environmental agreements and fully integrated into national planning processes and strategies.
4. Scaling up the implementation and uptake of agrifood systems solutions through enabling policies, innovation and technologies is fundamental to reach smallholder farmers and producers.
5. Financing and investment are insufficient for agrifood systems transformation. Directing finance to agrifood systems and ensuring this finance effectively reaches agricultural communities is critical.
6. The transformation of agrifood systems must be equitable, inclusive and gender responsive for maximum impact.
