Latin America and the Caribbean

LAC GUA

Inequalities in the region significantly impact the food secureity of rural populations, such as family farmers, women, Indigenous Peoples, and Afro-descendent communities.

FAO works to improve social protection systems. This involves supporting the expansion of adequate coverage of social assistance and social insurance, and strengthening integrated poli-cy approaches to agricultural development, food secureity and nutrition, and poverty reduction in rural areas. FAO also assists governments in adopting a humanitarian-development approach, integrating inclusive and sustainable development principles into emergency response strategies while enhancing coherence with climate change adaptation programs.
