April 1, 2025:
January 28th:
Florida CD 1 (Special General Election)
Florida CD 6 (Special General Election)

The State of Florida will conduct a special primary election on Tuesday, January 28th, to fill a vacancy for the 1st Congressional District, which includes Escambia, Okaloosa, Santa Rosa counties, and portions of Walton county and the 6th Congressional District, which includes Flagler, Lake, Marion, Putnam, St. Johns, and Volusia counties. Service members, eligible family members, and overseas citizens can register to vote up until (postmarked by) December 30th, 2024. Voters can use the Federal Post Card Application (FPCA) to register to vote, request a ballot, and update any contact information by using the completion tool available at fvap.gov/FPCA or by using the fillable PDF version. After completing the FPCA, voters must print, sign, and send it to their local election office.

Florida voters in the 1st and 6th Congressional Districts who are already registered and want to receive a mailed ballot must send in the FPCA as a ballot request by January 16th, 2025*. Registered voters who prefer to receive their ballot by email or fax can request their ballot up until Election Day*. Registered voters can send their completed, signed FPCA directly to their election office by email, mail, or fax. If you are not yet registered to vote, the FPCA must be sent by mail.

Florida voters in the 1st and 6th Congressional Districts living outside of the United States must return their voted absentee ballot either by mail or fax. If the ballot is mailed the ballot must be postmarked by January 28th, 2025** where they live and if the ballot is faxed the ballot must be received 7 PM January 28th, 2025. Active Duty Military and eligible family members within the U.S. must return their voted absentee ballot by mail and they must be received by 7 PM, January 28th, 2025**. Detailed instructions and county contact information are available at (Florida) FVAP.gov. Voters can verify the status of their voting materials by contacting their election office directly.

If a requested ballot has not arrived, use the Federal Write-in Absentee Ballot (FWAB) immediately at fvap.gov/FWAB. It works like a backup ballot. If your official absentee ballot arrives after sending in the FWAB, complete and send in the official ballot, too. Only one will be counted.

To make sure your voted ballot is received, go to FVAP.gov, select Florida from the pulldown menu and then click the "check the status of your voted ballot" button.

*Ballot Request: Under Florida law, an emergency day affidavit must be completed if a request for a ballot to be delivered is made starting 10 days before Election Day through 7 PM on Election Day. The affidavit affirms the fact(s) why the person is not able to go to an early voting site or his or her polling place on election day, as may be applicable.

**Ballot Return: Ballots must still be received no later than the 10th day after the election.

The Department of Defense is required to send this email notification starting 90 days before each election for federal office. This information is current as of December 31, 2024. As updates may occur, please check the election calendars and state guidelines at FVAP.gov for real time information.
