Prize-winning #Cuban #artist Manuel Garcia created the third painting in his Positively Negative collection as a rumination on the wicked thoughts in all of us. A young woman, who represents the kind of image that painters use to draw attention to their work and ensure its commercial success, is hiding. Garcia wanted her reluctance to be a statement about the history of seduction in #art.

As the subject of the second piece in his Positively Negative collection, prize-winning #Cuban #artist Manuel Garcia chose a woman and her dog. Her intentionally large hands represent the helping hands of some special women who provided input as he created the #painting. The piece is extremely detailed with fine brush strokes and lines that represent order and placement.

Born in Cuba in 1988, Manuel Garcia was interested in #art from an early age. His vision for the Positively Negative collection began with a tonal suppressed self-portrait, which reflected his belief that his opportunities for a career in art in #Cuba were reaching a dead end. By age 22, he had already won the Roberto Diago-Evento Provisional de Artes Visuales award, the country’s highest accolade for #artists, yet he longed for more and left Cuba for the United States to pursue his dreams.
