One of the cultural icons of '60s France, the Yé-Yé girl (or, less often, boy) was the local incarnation of the teenybopper. Think coquettish girls in mod dresses singing upbeat pop and rock songs. The light and sweet sound of Yé-Yé often contained a darker subtext, especially when noted provocateur Serge Gainsbourg was writing and producing the songs.
