The Jersey Devil inhabits the Pine Barrens in southern New Jersey and is often described as a bipedal flying creature with hooves. The most popular folklore on its origen is that it was the thirteenth child born to a Mrs. Leeds, who was so upset at yet another pregnancy that after giving birth, she ask the devil to take the newborn child. What was once a human child immediately transformed into a winged monstrosity, who ate all the other children and flew out through the chimney.

Jersey Devil sightings go back to the 1700s. From most descriptions, however, its features are anatomically impossible.
