For this week, I’d like to showcase this image of a sculpture uploaded by Starry Diadem on Flickr. I started looking into sculptures that have been overgrown as I was doing my research. I really love the framing and the angle this photo was taken in; it really highlights the beauty of both the statue and the growing nature! (This is a blog post for my art class at Texas State University!) "Any moral character is closely bound up with scenes of autumn: those leaves that fall like our years, those flowers that fade like our hours, those clouds that flee like our illusions, that light that grows ever feebler like our intelligence, that sun that grows colder like our loves, those rivers that freeze over like our life, all weave secret bonds with our fate..." ~ François-René de Chateaubriand Cemetery Statues, Istoria Artei, Angel Sculpture, Cemetery Art, After Life, Foto Art, Dark Academia Aesthetic, Academia Aesthetic, Sculptures & Statues

Even the tall and beautiful sculpture of a mourning angel will someday be hidden beneath the dense foilage of the beautiful Highgate Cemetery in London and thus creating a strong memento mori. The cemetery was opened in 1839 and is still in use. Especially the west part of the cemetery, where these images are from is very much overgrown, making a visit there a spectacular experience of both life, death and nature. Image 2/5
