These porcupine quilled Heart-shaped earrings represent one of four methods of quilling used by the Indigenous Peoples of the Northeast referred to as "The Wabanaki," or "Dawnland Peoples." The four methods of quilling are: weaving, embroidery, plaiting and bark insertion. The latter is what you see here. Flora, Fauna and Geometrics were favored themes for quilling artists, often drawing inspiration from the the natural world around them. Designs could be representational, spiritual or from just pure imagination. These earrings measure 3" long x 2" at their widest.
